Description
A BRIEF INTRODUCTION
This is a course which gives film makers and writers of fiction a fool-safe method of using advanced archetypal knowledge to create character arcs that work every time. As a writer myself and as a professor of writing at SFU and a mentor to film makers through Telefilm, CBC and WIDC I have created a system that is easily learned and easily applied. No other course on the market today gives you a method that is based on a system that has been around since man first drew stories on cave walls.
I’ve been teaching Using Archetype to Create Authentic Characters for producers and directors and writers in the film industry for over twenty years as part of the Women in the Director’s Chair Program created and produced each year by my dear friend and graduated doctoral student, Dr. Carol Whiteman. That program has produced so many scripts that have gone to development and that have earned prizes that I can say with great pride that my work has been a successful contribution to the world of film for women. Through WIDC, over 150 short films have been produced, as have many award-winning feature films including Red Snow, Rustic Oracle, Queen of the Morning Calm, and Dawn, Her Dad & the Tractor.
Description:
Using Archetype to Create Authentic Character Arcs that are true to plot and protagonist and antagonist.
Each participant will have the opportunity to create a scene which will identify the protagonist, their archetype and the arc suited to the character and the plot.
The methodology of this course is to have participants become familiar with 12 archetypes and the arcs associated with each archetype so that they can apply this knowledge to themselves, their scene and future work.
Specific tools to identify archetypes will be taught and shared.
The delivery will be on line. Zoom and e mail will be employed. Zoom meetings will be recorded for student study.
Materials will be available on the web once students register and will be removed upon graduation.
Each participant will receive one on one time with Dr. Mamchur.
Each scene will be explored by the author and Dr. Mamchur and the group. The curriculum in this course is YOUR work. Ideas can be directly applied to something that personally matters to you. Nothing is simply for “learning’s sake”. Everything will be immediately relevant and will move your script or story forward.
