We Believe In

Imagination:

Keeping the mind and spirit creating new ideas and insights about life and sharing them with others is the lived experience of Carolyn Mamchur, author, professor, consultant, mentor, mother, wife, friend.

She retired from Simon Fraser University at age 80 to free her time so that she could focus more on her personal creative writing and teaching and learning.  Others have commented on her seemingly endless curiosity and energy, sometimes labelling it as motivation to succeed and accomplish.  That is not how she experiences it.  “It is a hunger, a hunger for and a love of life.”

“How do you sustain it?” they ask.

She smiles and offers her friends a walk in the garden, a chat with her saucy mini horse, Josephine, a piece of apple pie made from their orchard fruit,  and the opportunity to spend the afternoon writing poetry in their sunroom.

Machine:

Why do I include the idea of Machine, in with Imagination & even more so, “Earth”. Machines have become such an important part of the way our world functions. Given however there are probably a few to many at the moment as well. They supply us with the ability to Sow, Grow and Harvest so many of the foods we eat, transporting us and the things we need to the places we need them.  If maintained properly the carbon footprint they leave can be lessened. I believe taking the automobile & extending the life of it to its highest potential, so that it may serve as a reliable long lived host of transportation .  So many of the vehicles that have been made, never got the chance to be in use as long as they could have, due to neglect and the expense of needed repairs.

To take a vehicle, whether it be a car or truck, and give it a renewed life with new parts, repairs, and maintenance, is my small contribution in an attempt to lessen the environmental impact on our earth by the manufacture new machines, and scrapping of the old ones

I use my love of cars, automotive skills, and natural mechanical inclination to bring you trusted repairs and vehicles for sale

EARTH: Magic Horse Garden

Magic Horse Garden has been a sanctuary for creatures two footed, four footed, and winged since Carolyn and her daughter, Mickey, purchased the land ten years ago.  There were several reasons to leave their home in Vancouver, sell the botanical garden they had created in Washington.  Mickey’s health was failing and they needed a calm safe haven where nature could offer healing and comfort.

Soon the hobby farm, then only unused land and unused stables with a huge garage and empty cottage, became a haven not only for Mickey, but a refuge for any creature needing to recover from stress or injury.

Horses needing rescue, birds needing healing, children suffering from autism, teachers experiencing burn out, immigrants wanting a welcome space to relax, be themselves, travellers needing an out of the city experience came to Magic Horse Garden.

Carolyn built seated areas filled with trees and shrubs and perennials.  She planted vegetable and fruit gardens.  She studied and became a practioner qualified to offer animal assisted healing to the. Many visitors who heard about Magic Horse Garden.

Horses, llamas, goats, dogs, chickens, ducks roamed the property.  It became a sanctuary designed to sustain life.

And then Carolyn lost Mickey to the liver disease that had plagued the child all her life.  And for the first time, Carolyn just stopped.  Everything.  She shut down and shut out.  A young man, Tyler Erhardt, was hired to run the farm.  He was a person who had lived off the grid.  Running a farm like this one was his dream come true.  Animals flourished.  Gardens blossomed as he built a self- sustaining farm.  Manure fertilized the fields and gardens, ducks ate the slugs and bugs, dogs guarded against coyotes, a wood chipper provided mulch and stopped the weeds.  Labor costs disappeared.   Cars, trucks, appliances were repaired instead of replaced.  Single handed, he operated the whole property from monies earned from the cottage he now rented.

Carolyn was able to retire from her position as professor.  Tyler was able to open a shop in one of the unused buildings on the place.  Life renewed.
